JUMP FOR THE CAUSE 2002
October Newsletter

Greetings JFTC Participants!

By now you should all be modeling your pink, yellow, blue and green suits around the dropzone. I was at a tunnel camp last week in Orlando and I saw several participants there working their new suits in the tunnel.

I have this one last newsletter available to get you information pertinent to the event. You may receive another few from Richard as deemed necessary.

So, are you excited??? I am. We'll all be meeting and greeting each other in less than two weeks. Way cool. In anticipation of our gathering, this newsletter contains information that should help you prepare to be a World Record holder.

Paperwork: You need to bring it with you. All your NAA, FAI, USPA and (if foreign) National Aeroclub original paperwork will be needed on site in order to register you for this record. Also make sure that your packing data card is in date per your national requirements, and bring your logbook if you keep one. A photo id will also be needed for Perris registration.

Schedules: We are finalizing this, and will have it up on the website shortly, but as of this writing our registration schedule is: Sunday October 13th: Registration 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm on site at the Perris Dropzone. Monday: Registration will resume at 6:00 am for late comers and continue until 7:30 am. Opening ceremony and breakfast will start at 7:30 am and continue through 8:30 am. Please make an effort to attend the complete ceremony to honor our City of Hope speakers. Dirtdive with Jumpsuits at 9:00 am sharp. Know your slots (remember, they might change so check them on site when you arrive). This schedule is for Monday only and is SUBJECT TO CHANGE, we will start earlier on Tuesday and subsequent days.

Hotel information will be e-mailed out by Richard to participants. Phone numbers and maps will be available at the DZ during registration and at the bar after hours.

Canopies and Equipment: Make sure that your equipment is up to standards and your reserve is in date so that you will be able to jump Monday morning. Bring spare items that you might need. Square One will be open during normal jump hours to help support JFTC during the event, but be prepared in case you have a problem early in the morning. Perris is at 1,500 feet AGL, you might want to consider upsizing your canopy for better landings, especially if you will be wearing more weight than normal.

Weights and Jumpsuits: Bring them all. This is a World Record, and you need to dress for success. This may mean wearing more or less weight than you have in the past. Keep your mind open and remain flexible to change and input.

Jumpsuit repairs and Alterations: We are planning on having a seamstress on site for minor jumpsuit alterations, but please do not assume that these will be able to be done before your first jump if you arrive late on Sunday. The earlier you address any problems the better.

Clothing: October in Perris can range in temperature from 70-100+ degree (F) days and 40-60 degree (F) nights. Bring everything from warm weather to cold weather clothing, both for jumping and ground comfort. Be prepared to jump in cold weather, especially during early morning dives

Polyester party Saturday night: Remember to stop by a local thrift store (or raid your closet) to bring clothes for the 2nd Annual JFTC Polyester Party on Saturday night.

Training Jumps: Bill Von Novak is having a JFTC training weekend at Perris October 4th and 5th. Jan Meyer will be at Perris organizing on the 12th and 13th. Please contact them directly if you are interested with the day(s) you'd like to attend.

Our overworked registration people are looking for volunteers to help with the Saturday and Sunday set ups. Please contact Richard Seymour if either you or a companion can volunteer some time and energy to help with the event.

I'd like to leave each of you with the thought that, as we live our busy lives, to remember that we have a wonderful challenge ahead of us next week and everyone should start getting mentally prepared. Take 10 minutes in each day to think about your goals for this event. Go through and visualize perfection in your exit, approach, docking, tracking, deployment and canopy control. Bring your positive vibes and energy for this event, and leave the rest at home. Ask yourself what you can do to make this event better, and to make it a success for each and every participant. Be prepared, both mentally and physically, before you arrive at Perris and the rest will take care of itself.

Thank you so much for all the great letters, calls and e-mails I've received over the last year (yes, it's been that long) of public coordination. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you, and I certainly look forward to sharing the energy and elation of a successful world record next week.
