JUMP FOR THE CAUSE 2002
August Newsletter
Greetings!
Time for the August newsletter. We've come a LONG Way in the last month. Our numbers are now topping 135 with several more qualified
ladies lurking in the sidelines trying to work out details. We will start out the gate with the complete contingent, so be ready to be doing some triple digit formations come Monday morning! For the lucky gals who are POP's qualified, that will just continue their weekend of large
skydives, they'll be the most current ones on the load ? If you're qualified and interested in the POPs record dives, contact Carey Peck at cpeckskydiving@yahoo.com for more information.
The money is really starting to roll in now. Many thanks to the ladies
who have been holding extremely successful fund raisers across the
country. The "Crawl for the Cause" netted over $9,000 from three cities
alone. Other fund raisers have included selling of items created for
JFTC for
donations, holding male "bikini' jumps (with an auction for both to do
the jump and to NOT do the jump, and a bar-b-q /dinner which netted over
$4,000 (and this in Canada, so it really raised much more!). You ladies
ROCK!!! I'm sorry I don't have room to recognize every person and each
event by name individually, but you have gone above and beyond in your
efforts to support JFTC.
Jumpsuit Status: The jumpsuit manufactures and I are all being inundated
with requests on "when will my suit be ready!" Be patient, oh pink
ones. They're sewing they're little fingers off, and every time they
answer the telephone or reply to an e-mail, a jumpsuit is NOT getting
made-that's for certain. I know you all want time to fly and learn your
suits, but don't worry, it's just a suit, albeit a shocking pink one (in
most cases). I've just been informed that the suits ordered from Flite
Suit will start shipping next week. Direct comments to jp@flitesuit.com.
Packers: This is a niche market near and dear to my own heart. I'd
like to get a list started of all the people who would like to have
packers available to them for the event. Please respond to Richard
Seymour rseymour12@earthlink.net if you want a packer (even if you've
told me already) and the days (including the POP's event, if applicable)
you'll be wanting the services. Count on $6 a pack job (the current
going rate in So Cal). We'll need to know no later than September 15th
so I can give the DZ packing group ample warning. If you don't respond,
or if you have your own packer that's fine, but the more people we get
on that list, the better the chance that we'll be 100% covered for the
event.
Chest strap cozies: Janet Lundquist base281@cox.net is still looking for
volunteers to wear her "Friends in Flight" embroidered chest cozies.
You'll be helping to keep the memory of a loved one alive by jumping
the cozies. Contact her for further information. She'll also have more
of her beautiful JFTC ribbon pins available for sale at the event. We
expect the opportunity for retail sales to support JFTC to be high, so I
encourage any person who has manufactured items to support their fund
raising to bring them along to the event to sell to the spectators and
local jumpers.
Rooms: JFTC is covering your hotel room for 6 nights. This includes
Sunday night, the 13th of October (our check in date, but NOT a jump
day)
through and including October 18th (Friday night). It does NOT include
Saturday, the 19th, which is the night of our final jumping day. If you
wish
to stay the 7th night in your same room, please contact Richard (e-mail
above) and let him know. He'll be able to arrange staying in the room
with
minimum changes and let you know our discounted room rate.
Party!! Skydive Perris would like to announce the second JFTC Polyester
Party night. Those of you who attended the first event in 1999 will
remember what an outrageous and fun party it was. The theme is to come
looking like a 70's lounge lizard. The local thrift shops will have
clothes, or you can go shopping now for the perfect outfit. Spending
more than $5 on your outfit is discouraged-get creative!! Perris has
booked a great band for the night, so be prepared to jump hard all day
and party hard all night (and sleep in on Sunday-YEAH!) <>
Shuttle from Ontario Airport to Perris. Those of you who are arriving
on either Saturday or Sunday, October 13th or 14th and would like a ride
from Ontario airport to Perris please contact Richard with your flight
information and times. We're seeing about coordinating rides. Also, if
you're arriving into Ontario on either Saturday or Sunday and have room
in your rental for a JFTC participant and her gear, let Richard know the
same information. Lastly, if any local participants would be willing to
give
a JFTC participant a ride from Ontario to Perris on either day, please
let
Richard know (YEAH Richard!) what time you would be available to help
shuttle.
Day Care. Last call to set up Day Care. Please let Richard know if you
will
Help taking care of your little ones during the event.
Stretching or Yoga. Do we have any JFTC participants who would be
Willing to help lead stretches or yoga on one (or more) of the mornings
Of the event? This is a fun way to start the day, and helps reduce
injuries.
Please let Richard know!
T-shirts. Please let Richard know your t-shirt size for the official
JFTC
Shirt, We'll try and offer size Small in addition to the other sizes if
there
is enough interest.
Formation and slots: I'm working on this. We had an 11th hour
airplane change and the exit order has changed as a result. My goal is
to have the formation, exit orders and slots posted on the website by
(gasp) mid to end September. Thanks for your patience on this. It does
take a while to do it right!
Companion event. There are still slots available for the Roger Ponce de
Leon organized companion event during JFTC. See the website for more
Details or contact Jason Russell, Jason@airkinetix.com. This is a
great
chance to support JFTC and make some great skydives even if you
aren't on the load!
Congratulations: We've has some welcome additions (or soon to be
additions) to some of our participants:. I'd like everyone to wish a
hearty CONGRATULATIONS to Virginia Marquez virginia@jumpforthecause.com
who has bowed off the load due to her pregnancy. We look forward to
seeing the entire fabulous flying Marquez family in the air together in,
oh, about 18 years or so. Also a congratulations goes out to Cathy and
Ryan Smith cathy@cathyandryan.com on the arrival of baby Taggart July
24th. Cathy will be jumping and Ryan will be baby-sitting during JFTC.
Get Well: Mollie Mercer AMolliecule@aol.com, a popular JFTC alumnus, had a
landing injury last month and, sadly, will not be able to jump during
the event. Jason Russell, Jason@airkinetix.com, mastermind behind the
"companion" event that Roger Ponce will be organizing at, also had a
landing injury. He'll be at the event, but he'll not be jumping by
October. He's cute, eligible, and doesn't move quickly right now-send
him an e-mail! Cher Gibson cgibson@condorpacific.com just had an ACL
reconstruction and we're crossing our fingers that she'll be able to
jump by October. Eliana Rodrigues elianaskychic@yahoo.com who is on
Airspeed Zulu and Airspeed 8 just broke her ankle about two weeks ago.
She couldn't attend JFTC because of prior team commitments (it's only
the WORLD cup! ? ) but she's my hero, and should be yours too! Send her
a get well note filled with thoughts of quick healing also if you get
the chance.
That's all for August. You'll be getting a final (sniff, tear)
newsletter in September, and then WE ROCK!!!
Happy thoughts of big formations, pink suits, and new world records to
all of you out there.
Blue skies
