JUMP FOR THE CAUSE 2002
Jump for the Cause/July 4th Boogie
Zephyrhills, FL

Skydive City hosted its Jump for the Cause/July 4th Boogie in
Zephyrhills, FL on July 6, 2002. Several "interesting" fund-raising
events occured throughout the course of the boogie with some media
coverage provided by Tampa Bay Channel 28 news (ABC) and the local
Zephyrhills News.
The event culminated on Saturday July 6th with a "Vote to see a men's
bikini jump" which raised almost $700 in just a few short hours and a
"Buck a Swing" car demolishing (think sledgehammer) which raised
almost $600. The bikini jump was a sight to behold (a few pictures
available at www.skydivecity.com) and kudos to all the men who
participated in the event. It was scary at times (men in g-strings,
that is), but it was all in fun and all to selflessly raise money for
breast cancer research. The car versus sledgehammer event which
followed the bikini jump raised an astonishing amount of money....a
big thank you to Steve Mottski for donating the car which was
demolished and set afire.
Thanks to John for manning the booth in Dade City which brought local,
non-dz attention to the event and to all the skydivers that not only
donated money, but went out and raised money at their places of work
as well. These folks, over the course of the weekend showed that even
if each person only does a small amount, the cumulative effort and
result can be incredible. Over $3000 in donations was raised with the
events, a raffle, and t-shirt sales. Several people over the course
of the weekend shared stories of sisters, mothers, aunts, wives and
friends who fought breast cancer. It was heart-warming to hear how
eager people were to share these stories and how it had touched their
lives in different ways. A big thank you to everyone that
participated and much support to those that are still battling this
disease.
